Yesterday morning Sarah opened her eyes! She recognized her mom and was able to talk a little. She communicated that she was in pain and that she didn't like the feeding tube. They removed the feeding tube down her throat yesterday and neck brace today. They are giving her a swallow test and hopefully she'll be able to start eating today. She's smiling and talking with some people, and recognizes people. She even sat up and gave hugs to her family and can move her arms and legs fluidly!
The doctors were planning to move her to the Step Down Trauma (or the Neuro Floor) today, but she has made such great progress that they will probably move her down again this afternoon. She still has some pretty bad headaches, which can be expected, so she will be on meds for that. She is still in the "danger zone" with the possibility of swelling, so keep praying that will stay down. Her ear has stopped draining, but is still open to infection and the doctors are also concerned about pneumonia since she hasn't been taking any deep breaths.
God has done some incredible things these past couple of days and it's apparent that He has had His hand on her and protected her from having additional major problems. It appears that there are no main injuries other than her fractured skull and a bruised lung. The doctors are still unsure about how the fracture will impact Sarah since it is so close to the carotid artery, which could cause a stroke if damanged, but she isn't showing any signs of stroke. Also, the trauma was in the front right lobe, which means her speech, dexterity, etc. will not be affected.
Just imagine what God has in store for Sarah's life! Thank you so much for praying and please keep doing so! But also thank God for His goodness and faithfulness to His children!
